Our Story
You found us, we're glad.
There is a particular vulnerability in becoming a mother. Your body is no longer theoretical. It is not a "before." It is not a project. It is not a quiet apology. It is evidence. It has carried, stretched, softened, nourished. It has stayed.
And yet, we find ourselves mothering in a world newly obsessed with shrinking. In a culture where the conversation hums with appetite suppression and smaller silhouettes, it is impossible not to notice how quickly the language of discipline returns. Control. Restraint. Less. Take up less space. Eat less. Want less.
But motherhood has done something unexpected to me.
It has made me hungry.
Hungry in the most literal sense. The 3pm toast with salted butter, the biscuit eaten standing at the counter, the late-night square of chocolate after everyone is asleep. But also hungry for pleasure. For slowness. For small luxuries that remind me I am still here inside the tending.
I have found, almost rebelliously, that I indulge more now. I butter the bread properly. I order dessert. I add cream to the berries. I sit down to eat instead of hovering. These are not grand gestures. They are soft refusals.
Motherhood has sharpened my awareness of rest, too. Rest is no longer indulgent. It is structural. Essential. It is the beam that holds the house up.
We live in a culture that praises women for endurance. For bouncing back. For doing more with less. But what if strength looks different? What if indulgence is not excess, but attention? What if the croissant and the nap are not weaknesses but the whole point?
Small luxuries: a warm bath before bed, linen sheets, proper olive oil, cotton pyjamas at noon. These are not frivolous. They are reminders that we are allowed pleasure. That shrinking is not a prerequisite for worthiness.
This is where Clouds & Claude begins.
We are a Melbourne-born label, conceived in the particular stillness that arrives after a child does. Each piece is designed here and brought to life by master artisans in India, where chain-stitch embroidery has been practised for centuries.
The fabric is 100% double layer cotton gauze: pure cotton, chosen not for trend but for feel. Weightless against the skin and breathable in every season. We chose cotton gauze because it is a fabric that responds to being loved rather than fighting it, growing softer with washing and more familiar with time. It is made to be worn often and worn well.
These are not garments made for one occasion. They are made with the intention of being kept, of becoming the thing you reach for again and again, and perhaps one day passing on to a woman you love.
But a softer life is not made of clothing alone. It lives in the details: the soap that scents the linen drawer, the basket carried to the Saturday market, the match struck to light a candle at the end of a long day. So alongside our own pieces, we gather treasures from Byron Bay to Provence to Morocco, chosen with the same care and for the same reason. They are the small luxuries this whole story began with, and we believe every ordinary day deserves a few of them.
We can go softer. And in doing so, we may discover we are stronger than ever.
This is an invitation: to savour slowly, to live gently, to indulge without apology.
Welcome to Clouds & Claude.
